My New Uniform

I must admit, I have a new uniform.  I am always trying to find an easy outfit to throw on that looks put together. This is it- jeans and a starched oxford.  I was inspired while flipping through the J. Crew "Style Guide". I was doing some research on a formula for layering (I haven't figured that out yet), and I noticed that they put oxfords with everything!  I have always loved a good oxford. At one time in my life I wore one everyday and so I have lots.  Well, they are seeing a new life lately.  I love that I have some that are light-weight (here) and some that are a heavier weight.

I like to tuck the shirt in and semi-pop (not a full pop but a partial pop- ha!) the collar when I'm going to be out and about.

But, when I'm at home the shirt gets untucked!  A reader shared with me that she was looking for inspiration for her bedroom, and I'm always looking for convenient places to take pictures- so here's my favorite place in the world, my bed(room)!  It's still a work in progress.  My sister is an interior designer so I'm constantly asking her for advice, which she happily gives!

I don't have an office so I decided to make a desk next to my bed.  If you're looking for a great looking but inexpensive chair, my sister posted on this one (here).

Socks?- Yes, Socks.

Did I catch your attention with my ugly foot? Ha! When I purchased my Converse I saw these Hue "no-show" liners at the check-out counter. They were just what I needed for my new tennis shoes! I passed on buying three pair for $16 and decided to try a single pair out first.  Well, they are awesome and so I had to share!  They have a sticky tab on the back that keeps them in place and also provides a little cushion for the heel bone.

Now you see the socks...

Now you don't!

I feel like, with any outfit, if you've got a great top it makes the rest of the outfit. That's how I solved my rodeo "cowgirl chic" outfit predicament.  When I saw this top in the Lucky catalog, I knew it was my solution.  It was easy to put together because I already had the skinny jeans and boots, and although jewelry would be great with the outfit, I don't feel like it needs it.  Another reason I like this top is because it's not just a "rodeo" shirt. I look forward to wearing it in the summer with shorts and wedge sandals, too.  If this tops not YOUr style, check out Sundance here and Lucky Brand here for a top that is YOUr style.  I'm loving both brands for "cowgirl chic"!

Cowgirl Chic

It's Rodeo time in Houston- Yay!  I love the Rodeo. I don't get to go as much as I used to, but I still love it (I think I went like 9 times in 8th grade- ha)!  If you're not from Houston (well, maybe even if you are), you may be wondering, "What in the world- what's so fun about a dirt arena, and who cares what you wear to it?"  Well, I can't explain the first part, but maybe my sister can in her post here. As for the second part, I'm telling you...some of these ladies know how to dress!  Rodeo "Cowgirl Chic"  (my name for Rodeo attire) can be kinda tricky, especially if you don't wear boots everyday, like me.   I thought I'd do a couple of posts on the subject to help those of you in the same perdicament.

The denim on denim trend is so in right now (I even saw it on the Today Show as a trend to follow- ha!).  So, why not pair it with your cowboy boots?!  If you're looking for a good place to shop for "Cowgirl Chic"attire, Lucky Brand (where my belt is from) has great, trendy stuff.

What's YOUr Style

OK, so clearly a pear sweater isn't for everybody but that's what style is all about, right?!?!  In Houston it's been raining for what feels like years, although it's only been a couple days. So, when I saw the sun through my bathroom shutters the other morning I knew I had to wear my sweater- it's fun and sunny feeling.  I guess you could say I was inspired by the sun.  I'm a firm believer that if you see something that you LOVE and is just so "you", buy it (if you have the money, that is).  I actually passed on this sweater when I first saw it at J. Crew.  It was during Christmas and I was supposed to be shopping for others, right?!  But when I opened it up from my Father-in Law, I was so excited and kind of amazed!   How did he know? Or did he just think it looked like me?!  Moral to this story is, style is so personal so buy what you love!  They say to do it for your home, so why not do it for your clothes!

Why a pear you ask?  I can't believe I'm actually about to write this-  when my husband and I got married we had a pear theme. "The Perfect Pair" to be exact.  How cheesy is that?!?!  So cheesy, we even gave away pears as our favors!

Still loving my Stash and Co. backpack.

My Dream Valentine's Day Outfit

Ok, before you write this post off because you have none of this in your closet, hear me out :).  I absolutely love to put outfits together, especially when I'm helping clients. This is the time I get really giddy and start clapping my hands (yes, I really have done this).  So, just in case you're in a quandary about what to wear, I thought I'd help you out.  The outfit on the left is a monochromatic outfit with black accents. One of my favorite color combinations is black and blue- somewhat unexpected, but so rich and elegant.  It's worth making the point that these blues don't match exactly, but with a monochromatic pallette they don't have to.  Let me ask you this, do you have black pants or skirt in your closet?  Might you have two items of the same color that you could put with your black?  Viola! You have a Valentine's outfit!  Now, for the second option. I love black and white together (an indisputable classic), but what takes this outfit up a notch is the pop of color that the green earrings provide.  Now, let me ask you- might you have black bottoms that you could put with a white top?  What about a colorful pair of shoes, or a purse, or a pair of earrings?

Inspired: Jackets

I know I've said this a lot, but I often get inspired by clients.  I've never been much of a "jacket wearer".  It's not that I dislike them, I just don't gravitate towards them for some reason.  I've had a few clients who love jackets because of the silhouette and coverage it gives them.  They were right, and I took notice.  I started to realize that jackets had the same effect that a cardigan or open sweater has on a silhouette!  Well, consider me a "jacket wearer" now- ha!

The fatigue jacket (aka army jacket) trend is going crazy right now.  Well, I don't know if I should call it a trend because an army jacket is such a classic, but oh well- ha!  I purchased this one from Nordstrom and I love it!  Inside it has drawstrings that you can cinch to give you a waist.  I love it too because it's not super thick canvas, which is important when living in Texas.  I've also been so surprised by how neutral this color is. It doesn't clash with anything, not even pink wells!  But what I love about it most is the price- $59, which I think is pretty good for a jacket!

Confession: I haven't taken my Converse or my army jacket off since the beginning of the week.  What can I say, when I like it, I like it!  For more army jacket inspiration check out my Pinterest page.

Love Story

Sometimes I just don't want to wear skinny jeans.  Can I get a woot, woot!?!  For those of you that feel the same, I've got a love story for you.  Recently I went on the hunt for a good pair of flare leg jeans.  I needed to replace my old J. Brand Love Story flares.  After a long search, I realized I was looking for what I already had. So, what did I do? I bought the Love Story jeans again.  Now, that's a love story- ha!

I love them because I feel like they look a little dressier.  This is a good thing because they are too long to wear with flats.  I'm looking forward to wearing them with wedges and a flowy boho top in the summer.

I guess I've been loving flare jeans for quite some time.  I found all three of these pictures already pinned on my C. Style Pinterest page- ha!  Thought you guys might like the "pinspiration" too!

Please forgive the picture quality.  I was on a date with my husband and all I had was my iPhone and the lighting wasn't the best.

Wedge Sneaker?

YES!, there is a trend that's comfortable and functional, I'm so excited- fashionable sneakers!  After posting my Tretorn's last summer, my love for sneakers has exploded.  So, of course, I noticed when all the wedge sneakers started hitting the stores.  Now, I didn't buy wedge sneakers, but I did buy Converse.  Clearly Converse have been around for a long time, but maybe that's why I purchased them and not the wedge sneaker- they're a classic.  Or maybe I just don't feel cool enough for the wedge sneakers.  It also could be that I'm just afraid I'm going to eat it in the wedge sneakers.  But, when it's all said and done, I'd prefer to run errands, take the kids to a birthday party or the park in flats.

That's not to say that I won't eventually try the wedge sneaker trend.  But, for now, I am loving my new Converse.  I bought them last weekend and I've worn them almost everyday!

Love these too!

I thought about these because they were a cross between the wedge sneaker and a flat.

I've had my eye on these!  If I were to ever pull the trigger on the wedge sneaker trend these are the ones I would buy!  How cute would these be with white skinny jeans, blue jean shorts or work out clothes (I just had a flashback to Jane Fonda wearing leg warmers)!

LOVE

I LOVE the month of February!  It's right before spring, we celebrate love, and my birthday is at the end of the month- ha!  I'm all for a month that celebrates LOVE.  Plus, I am huge sucker for celebrating holidays. I see holidays as one of life's little pleasures.  For this reason I like to geek out a holiday!  I bought these "love" earrings at UO and I'll be wearing them all the time. These earrings will definitely be worn all year round, they're just playful and fun.

When I graduated college and started working I thought that I had to dress in black and grey to be taken seriously.  Thankfully, I had a mentor who, in so many words, asked me why in the world I was wearing black and grey all the time.  She suggested that my personality and my clothes didn't match up.  After this I was liberated and never looked back (Thank you A.J., you should have a style blog, not me).  One of my favorite things to do was to wear a fun festive shirt like 1. and 2. under a black suit- conservative but still fun!  I could see both with a black pencil skirt too.  Also, I am crazy about these "besties" iPhone cases. What bestie wouldn't want a fun iPhone case for Valentines?!  "Besties" can celebrate Valentines day too!  And I am officially in LOVE with 4!  I've asked my husband to get it for me for Valentines.  It's not too expensive, it will look great with all my other bracelets (aka "stack"), but it will still look so dainty and cute if I wear it alone.
