Favorite Finds Part 1

It's the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas is here- ahhhhh!  I'm filled with excitement and then dread.  Every year I want to give the perfect gift, and every year I run out of time and end up just getting something that's available. Then there's the dreaded question, at least for me, what do I want for Christmas. I love lots of things, but in that very instant I am asked I can't remember anything I want.  For this reason, I thought it would be fun to take little snapshots around town while I'm out shopping and share them.  Because, I know not everyone has the time or desire to shop to the extent that I do- ha!

I'm nuts over these Twisted Gold Tumblers.  Just imagine how fun it would be to have friends over for cocktails or dinner and use these glasses.  They're so luxurious (as Martin Bullard says) and regal looking!  Heck, I'd even drink my coke out of these. Who says it has to be saved for a cocktail?

What can I say, I love necklaces.  I want this necklace really bad!

Look how great it looks with a t-shirt.

These straws are the perfect hostess gift! Please have me over to your party, so I can give them to you! The only catch is that I might make you give me one to drink from all night.

Ok, I might be giving these to everyone for any celebration!  This is how much I love them.

This is the ultimate girly gift.  If you are like me, you have a bar of soap in your lingerie drawer that has completely lost it's fragrance leaving your bras smelling like the mexican food restaurant you ate at last night.  These wax tablets (bhldn-in store) are AMAZING.  They are so fragrant, way more fragrant than any bar of soap, and not to mention pretty.  I think I've just convinced myself to buy one right now- ha!

A mug for your besties, who need coffee as much as you do in the morning.

These hairbands won't kink your hair.  I borrowed one from my sister-in-law to test it out (thanks Mallory).  Consider it tested.  I want a pack or two.  The perfect gift, because who wants to pay $12 for a hair band?

The perfect gift for the newly engaged or bride to be. Engraved forks on the cake table at the wedding- what a cute photo op. I love gifts that celebrate such a fun time in life!

Where were these shoes when I got married?!?!

If this dress was on sale and if I had somewhere to wear it, I would buy it in a heartbeat.  I guess this isn't technically a gift, but I had to include it in case any of you have an occasion for this dress.  Buy it and send me a picture of you wearing it- I would love it! It would make my year!

I'm a very happily married women.  I just love this dress and I just had to show it to you all.  I don't think I'm the only one who says to herself, if I could go back and do it again, I'd wear THIS dress.

"Put Together"

When I work with clients I always ask this question (in so many words), "When you leave a room, what would you like people to say about your appearance?".  The answer is always pretty much the same- "I just want to look put together".  Me too!  In my mind there is no easier way to achieve this than by just adding a scarf.  I love to wear jeans, a tee and flats.  Add a scarf to that combination and viola!-- a put together look with very little effort.  That's what I'm talking about!

I recently bought this white long sleeve shirt from Nordstrom for $14.95... can you believe?!?!
I love the mercer pocket tee from the Gap for a short sleeve version.

Long Sleeve- Nordstrom (in store),  Mercer Tee- Gap, (in store), Scarf- long time ago, Shoes- Gap long time ago, Bag- Kate Spade (black sold out online, but in stores), Bracelet- Tory Burch (similar), Jeans- Citizen of Humanity

Today I was with a client that loves scarves.  She had a Tory Burch scarf (on the left) that she wanted to wear more, but wasn't quite sure what to pair it with.  I was so excited to find three outfits using the scarf.  The picture on the right is her scarf collection.  What I learned today, is that you can never have too many scarves.  I think Europeans are on to something- ha!

I've always loved sequins, so why has it taken me this long to buy a sequined shirt?!?!?!  I know why!  I always felt like I had to go somewhere fancy to wear it.  I'm loving the new sequin trend! The best part is that they are putting it on casual/comfortable silhouettes, like cotton tanks and sweatshirts.  Now that's what I'm talking about- a little bit of glam, but I'm still comfortable.

I love that I can wear this sequined shirt with my jeans just as easily as I could to a Christmas party with a black blazer, my black slim leg pants, and heels.  I wore this to Thanksgiving to be festive and a little dressy, but still comfortable.  Plus, my Aunt used to have a no jeans at Thanksgiving rule, so I thought I'd show up in sequins- ha!

Enough Said

I love quotes! So today I thought I would share one of my very favorite "fashion" quotes.  Since I first saw this quote on a magnet, I've thought about it time and time again.  Who knew a door could have so many meanings.  Check out

Enough said.

 Happy Thanksgiving!

The Banana Box

I'm pretty excited about this new cocktail ring I found in the "Banana Box" this weekend for only $7.69!  Now that's a deal!  What's the Banana Box you ask?...

Does this look familiar?  At Banana Republic they have a little section of jewelry that is on sale next to their regularly priced jewelry.  Since discovering the Banana Box, I don't think I've paid full price for jewelry there.  It's the perfect place to go when you're looking for a gift (Christmas, Birthday), or when you want a little something fun without spending a ton of money.  When I walk into the store I pretty much make a bee-line to the Banana Box.

The best part (and this has happened to me a few times) is that it will be marked at a certain price and when I get to the register it's marked down even more.  As you see from the picture the ring was marked $21.99, it rang up at the register as $10.99, and they were running a 30% off entire purchase promotion- cha-ching!!  What's even better is that it is full price on the website.  Man, I love a good deal!

I told you I was mad about plaid- ha!  I haven't taken the shirt off!  And now I won't take off the cocktail ring either!  Also, just in case you were wondering, I made up the term "Banana Box".  Banana Republic associates will have no idea what you are talking about if you ask them where the Banana Box is-ha!

Mad About Plaid

I love plaid! I always have. It's such a classic pattern- it never goes out of style.  A good plaid shirt will stand the test of time, and this is why I'm mad about plaid.  Plus, it's a fun way to be festive without wearing a Christmas Sweater or Vest- ha!  I'm all for fun and festive!

Plus, it's super comfy and cozy.  I gave my plaid shirt an edgy vibe, that is more on trend, by pairing it with black jeggings and black slipper loafers.  This is my day look.
Plaid Shirt - J. Crew, Black Jeggings -Avedon Citizens of Humanity, Black Slipper Loafers - Via Spiga, Purse - Marc by Marc Jacobs for smaller version

I added my "statement necklace" for a fun night out with my husband. This necklace is getting some serious wear.

Then I added my "go to" black suede wedges, and viola! My day look easily transitions into the night.
Earrings - Kate Spade, Necklace - Michael Kors, Wedges - Calvin Klein for similar

What's a Statement Necklace Anyway?

I'm going to be honest, I kept hearing this term "statement necklace" and I had no idea what it meant.  Did it mean the necklace itself makes a statement? Why did I "need" one?  Well, I'm still not sure I know, but I am wearing the necklace above all the time. While I don't know if it makes a statement, I do know it makes every outfit better.  It can also take a day outfit into the night and it just as easily completes a cocktail dress look.  Is this why I "needed" a statement necklace? Ha!

From the very second I tried on this necklace at the store I loved it.  It was the perfect accessory for my cocktail dress.

What I didn't know is that I would wear it out with my jeans to dinner,

to celebrate my 8th wedding anniversary,

and I even wore it to the Nutcracker Market, shopping with my family!

Here are a few of my favorite "statement" necklaces:
I saw this one at Target.  This picture doesn't do it justice.  The crystals are clear like diamonds not grey looking.  Clear Stone Collar Short Necklace -Target

Michael Kors 'Very Hollywood' Collar Necklace  This is the one I'm wearing above.

How To: Everyday Bun

Recently, a few of you have been wondering how I do my bun. I am so flattered! I didn't realize how much I depend on this quick and easy hairdo until I started this blog.  I really love to sleep...  it's probably my favorite thing to do.  So, for this reason I can't pull myself out of bed to really "do" my hair.  Here's how I do my everyday bun:
After drying your hair, shake your head and see which part is looking best that day- left, right, center...
Today my hair looked and fell best on the left.
Once you've parted your hair, pull it to the side and pin it with a bobby pin.
Gather your hair into a ponytail and put your hairband on your other hand.
Twist your hair while still holding your ponytail. Twist it so much that it starts to curve and form into a bun. Then, take hold of the very end of your ponytail.
While holding the end of your ponytail wrap your hair around itself.  Then tuck in the end.
Once you have the end piece tucked in, grab the entire bun with your hand that has your hairband on it.
Then, start wrapping your rubber band at the base of the bun...
collecting some of the piece that are sticking out, but don't worry about this too much, it's not supposed to be perfect
It's not a perfect bun- as you can see some hair is sticking out.  During the middle of the day my hair will come loose, and I'll tuck it under the bobby pin or back under the rubber band. I like to keep it imperfect.

Here's to all of us getting a little more sleep!
