One Of A Kind

Last Saturday, my sister and I went to the Urban Market Antique Show.  I love antiques, but not as much as clothes!  This is precisely why I ended up with a new purse at the Antique Show- ha!  I'm crazy about one-of-a-kind items or unique personal accessories.  Interior Designers say to fill your home with items that are uniquely you.  So- hey, I 'll just do the same for my wardrobe/closet!  P.s. I am loving the infinity scarf trick :)!

Here, I am trying on "the bag."  I have to say, from the very second I tried it on, I was a little giddy.  Yes, I get giddy over these things.  I had my sister take a picture of me because sometime I think you see things differently in pictures.  In this case, it made me like it even more.  Dangit, I don't need another bag, I tell myself.  But then I learned the story behind the bag...

It's made by Stash and Co.  Their bags are handmade individually in a 100-year-old historic landmark factory in small town Texas.  My backpack was made by J Raphael Klein and the leather actually has brand mark on it - making it truly one of a kind.  He even designed the outside pocket for an iPhone....genius!  Cheryl Schulke, the founder, A.K.A. Stash, has a great story- check it out here.

If you think the bag is as cool as I do, check out their website.  They don't have it as one of the standard options, but they said it would be no problem to make it. It is the Backpack Sm | Chocolate.  If you decide to get one, rest assured, no two are alike- ha!

Did I mention that my cross body gave me a headache the day before?  I needed this backpack for my health- haha!

What A Deal!

I just can't help myself - I've got to share my deal with you!  I was shopping, which I don't do very often-haha :), and I found this shirt on sale at J. Crew for $27.99!

I love how the navy stripes are horizontal on the back!  It's a perfect shirt to throw on with a pair of jeans.

I found this top at the same time, and I am just as crazy about it.  I love the zipper detail on the back.  It was also on sale for $27.99 in the store!   Raglan Sailor Top

I didn't intend for my son to match me, but I thought it was pretty funny so I had to take a picture!  After all, I am the one that buys his clothes :).
Shirt- sold out on-line, purchased it at the store, and they had some in the back, Jeans - Joe's Chelsea fit- here for their new version, Boots - Frye (cognac), Earrings - Kate Spade at Nordstrom

I'm crazy about putting my classic style watch with fun gold bangles.  You should try it!  My husband bought me this watch because it reminded me of a watch my Mom had.  If you have a classic style watch like this, with the leather band, put some bangles on with it and give it a new life!

How to: Infinity Scarf

I love to wear scarves - to me it's a way to add a little something extra to my t-shirt and jeans.  I really like the new infinity scarf trend, but I don't want to go out and buy all new scarves!  I like the ones I have.  Can you relate?  I've got a trick!

Here's my grey and cream J. Crew Factory scarf, which is obviously not an infinity scarf.  Here's how you can turn any scarf into an infinity scarf.

All you have to do is tie the ends together.  If your scarf has fringe at the end, tie the fringe.

Now you have one big loop.

Now you see knots at the back of the neck...

Now you don't!  The second loop around your neck will cover the knots.  How easy it that?!?!  This way you don't have any little pieces to tuck in, and it won't come undone when you bend down.

Any scarf in your closet can be made into an infinity scarf!  As a side note, I'm so happy to support a fashion trend that is comfortable and gives a pair of shoes to a child.  TOMS, I hope you never go out of style :)

Jeans Shopping Made EASY!

I don't think I'm the only one who finds shopping for jeans totally overwhelming,  I mean where do you even start?  Not only do we have to worry about what fits our body type, but what style should we get, what wash, what brand, ahhhhhh!  What's a girls to do? I have a solution!  Here I am sporting my new favorite jeans.

I love the wash and the slight edgy detail or should I just say, holes.  I think I once said, why would you ever buy jeans with pre made holes in them... Well, now I know, so you feel hip and cool!

Jeans- 'Racer' Citizens at Nordstrom, Blouse - Splendid, Black Flats - way long ago but I just bought these to replace them, Necklace - Michael Kors at Nordstrom, Purse - Marc by Marc Jacobs smaller version, Gold Hoops - Urban Outfitters in store only
This is how my shopping trip began.  Not only did I have less than 15 minutes to shop, but I had two kids with me!  Whether you have kids with you or not, we are all very busy and don't want to spend all Saturday trying to find that perfect pair of jeans, am I right?!?!
Meet your new best friend, the Jeans Department Sales Associate.  Whether you are shopping at Nordstrom, Gap or Ann Taylor these ladies know their stuff.  They see all sorts of women try on pair after pair of jeans.  They know what will look good and what won't!  This is Natalie, she is a Sales Associate in t.b.d. at Nordstrom in Houston Galleria.

I wore my favorite pair of jeans to show Natalie what I already have, and also to show her what I like about them.  In this case I liked the fit and length and that I am able to roll them.  She immediately went to work.  She put me in the "BIG" dressing room, since I had the stroller, and just started bringing me jeans.  I had four pair of jeans in 10 minutes that I loved (I'm not keeping them all).  Now that's what I'm talking about!  Jeans shopping made easy!  Thank you Natalie!

Have No Fear...In The Chair

You want to know something sad? Going into my hair appointment today, I thought I was having a pretty good hair day.  Before (Left), After (Right)... as if you didn't know-ha!  I've been going to Robert for almost 10 years now. That means that I should have forgotten about the terrible agony I used to experience in the black leather spinny chair, but I remember it still.  I would always pretend that I wasn't looking at how short they were cutting my hair, or checking if the highlights looked orange when they peeked under the foil. Luckily, those days are over for me and I am so thankful.

Just know, that wherever you are, you don't have to endure that agony.  I know there are good stylists everywhere, you just have to find the right one.  Seriously, what happened to my hair (left)?  Is this just the price I pay for having two beautiful boys, am I using the wrong shampoo, or is my hair just ratty?  Well, whatever, at least every two months I'll have a day, like today, when my hair looks "done".  Maybe, I'll post on how I do my hair on "regular" days.  Thank you Robert!  Thank you for putting my mind at ease in that black leather spinny chair for the last ten years.

Pinterest Obsessed

I am happy to say that I am not the only one obsessed with Pinterest.  Meet Sheaffer, the very talented blogger of Pinterest Told Me To.  She's everything that I am not as a blogger, a great writer, super entertaining and witty.  We met a couple of weeks ago after Melanie, at The Big Mama Blog, kindly featured us.  So, we've teamed up for today's post. Firstly, I've posted a couple of my favorite outfits of hers for your viewing pleasure.  I love how she does her own rendition of the Pinterest picture with the scarves and belts from her own closet, click the pictures to go to the posts!  If you want some fun ideas about how to wear a scarf she's got some here.  I've copied her concept with a leather leggings outfit below.

Love this outfit too!  Below is an excerpt from her blog.  It had me cracking up.  Click here for full post.
"Oh...before going on....I must throw out a disclaimer. The picture on the right was taken in front of an antique mirror that has etching on top.  Don't worry, Pinterest didn't tell me to wear some sort of weird headdress.  However, if Pinterest does tell me to wear some sort of headdress in the future, I can't promise you I won't.She's definitely the boss in our relationship.  She bosses me, and I listen.

I love these tailored jeans she purchased at GAP Outlet, and they were on sale!  Sometimes when you see pins it's hard to know if the outfit would actually look good on, and she takes the guess work out of it while including the links to purchase!  Click here for full post.  Check her out on her out on Facebook and Pinterest.

Here's my Pinterest Told Me To inspired look.  Please forgive, I am not as technologically savvy as Sheaffer, but I promise the picture on the left is from my C. Style Pinboard.  I purchased these leather leggings from Club Monaco after a friend texted me a picture of them in the store.  I went to Club Monaco that day.  Yes, I'm a wee bit crazy.  For this reason I knew I wanted a really dynamo outfit to go along with them.  Inspired by Pinterest Told Me To, I typed leather pants into the search bar at Pinterest and found this outfit.  I hope you like my rendition.

Leather Leggings - Club Monaco, White Blouse - J. Crew, Gold Hoops - Urban Outfitters in store only, Black Suede Pumps - Piperlime last season for similar click here , Watch - Michael Kors,  Purse - J. Crew Factory for similar click here

Here, Sir, let me open the door for you.  Oh, I hope you don't mind but you'll be on my blog--ha!

Black Loafer Trend

To be perfectly honest I didn't know if I could pull off the black loafer look, but I feel like a good black flat is a fall wardrobe essential. When I first saw this trend, I was a little skeptical, but then I ran across this picture in a magazine and I was inspired...

I don't know, maybe it was because she was holding a baby or that she so casually put her foot on this really cool red sofa, but it spoke to me. That's when I realized that this trend could be so elegant and classic, and the search began for the perfect black loafer.

I found these Via Spiga loafers at Nordstrom, and I liked that they didn't cover the entire foot and still looked feminine.

Shoes in action, guess where I am...

I found these similar, less expensive, Dolce Vita loafers at a bientot in Houston, but here they are at Zappos.  I think I may even like these more than my Via Spiga pair!  I pinned these Emerson Fry loafers on the right along time ago, and in this case it worked out because now pink ones are on sale.

Brown with Black? YES!

At one point in my life I felt like I couldn't wear black and brown together, but things have changed!  I am crazy about wearing this color combination!  It adds more interest and contrast to any outfit.  Imagine this outfit with black boots...kinda ho-hum...

In my next few posts I thought I would do some fall "must haves," and I'm kicking it off with this great cardigan.  I feel like this open cardigan is very versatile for the fall.  I love that it's black and cream, making it somewhat neutral.  It would look cute with colored jeans, with leggings, or on top of a chambray shirt.  Shoot, I think I'll even wear it around the house with my pajama pants and Uggs.  If I were pregnant I would be in this everyday and I'd probably wear it home from the hospital-ha!

So I'm a little upset, but hopefully I can make it up to you.  When I bought this cardigan from Urban Outfitters, (but very similar if not same here) 2 months ago, I certainly didn't think it was going to sell out.  If I did, I would have posted it immediately. Instead, I decided to wait until the weather turned a little cooler. I have since learned my lesson. I should have known it would sell out, since it was only $69.00!  But don't worry, I've found two really great alternatives below.

Boots - Frye , Zara Black Jeggings- (for alternative Gap), Purse- Marc by Marc Jacobs

The picture on the left is Anthropologie and the picture on the right is Gap.  The Gap sweater is new, it's in stores but not online, yet.  I just received word that you can order the Urban Outfitters Sweater in the store.  It will ship October 20th when the restock.
